Is the balance shaft necessary in a 2.0 turbo mitsubishi eclipse engine? Install eliminator kit??
The low oil light came on, followed by complete loss of oil pressure. I,m now in the process of replacing the oil pump, and found that not only the oil pump has seized, but also the balance shaft. (the engine itself did not lock up--no major damage, i hope. I shut it down soon after loss of oil pressure.) Any info on installation of balance shaft eliminator kits, and any good/bad effect of using them ?
I have the same motor. When i built it up, that eliminator kit was the best thing that i could have done to that motor. In someways i wish it would have fell apart on me sooner. It saves alot of time on the rebuild side of things because it is one less thing that has to be timed. Just remember when it comes time to check the timing marks turn the motor over by hand, and make sure the marks line up. They won;t all line up after the first turn around, but i think it was 6 full revs. it should work out good for ya. You can e-mail me if you have any problems with it.
